Vicky is one of my favourite faces to see, bubbly, happy, friendly, energetic and the list goes on. Her smile is purely infectious. I always believe that everyone would be a little bit better with Vicky in their lives so here is your injection of inspiration 🙂 I couldn’t think of anyone more perfect to start the new year off with on the blog. Read more about her on her blog here and find out which yoga classes she teaches (AMAZING, and 10/10 for the little foot massage at the end) <3
What is your name?
Vicky Hogg
What do you ‘do’?
I am a yoga teacher and a primary school teacher, currently working at a beautiful special needs school and a few amazing yoga studios on the Gold Coast.
Where are you from?
I am originally from a small town in the north east of England, but have lived in beautiful Australia for nearly 6 years now!
What is your philosophy?
Everyone has their own path and Dharma, we are all put here for our own unique reason. We can often get lost and ignore that internal voice, that call that tells us where we need to be and what we want to do. My philosophy is…you must follow this call. I truly, truly believe this is the answer to happiness. Don’t let society’s expectations mold your life or how you live it. If you wanna be a free, crazy hippie…be one! If you wanna be a writer…start writing! If you wanna make a difference…make it! If you wanna live off the grid and grow your own veggies…start digging! Simply live your truth.
What inspires you?
People who help other people inspire me.
People who go out of their way to make others happy, to give them love and hope. I love people that speak out about real stuff and real issues, I love these people even more when they act upon their talk. I get extremely inspired by bravery and people standing up for issues to create change, even when all odds are stacked against them.
Also the kids I teach inspire me everyday to make the most of this precious life.
What is your favourite dish to cook?
I LOVE to cook homemade falafel with pita breads and guacamole. Another favorite in my home, is homemade Chana Dahl, we make massive batches of the stuff and eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Where is your favourite place to travel to?
Well, that’s a tough question to answer as I haven’t been everywhere…yet! But so far I would say I loved travelling Laos, the people were extremely friendly, kind and welcoming. Although this is a very poor country I had the most amazing time, waterfalls, treks and markets galore!
Describe your typical day?
My typical day is a busy one…I normally get up around 5am to do some breathing/meditation before grabbing an apple and running out of the house. I then teach a 6am yoga class or grab a coffee with my lovely fiancé, then it’s off to school to teach the most beautiful, enthusiastic and sometimes challenging children until 3pm. After school it’s either home for food then straight to teach a couple more yoga classes, or if I have the night off me and my fiancé like to go for beach walks, surfing or curl up with a good book.
Describe your perfect day?
My perfect day is normally my Sundays, as I have the whole day off with my fiancé Micky. We like to get up and take our time making breakfast while catching up. Usually we head out for a hike or a surf or to explore a new little town. To be honest, all my days are perfect when I spend it with him, he is a pretty incredible guy and super fun to be around.
Favourite restaurant / café on the Gold Coast?
Well I LOVE coffee, probably a little bit too much! Although I try and limit myself to 1 a day, I always go to Board Culture Community Surf Store to get my hit for the day. They are such a genuine bunch of people who serve up a smashing coffee! I also love love love Bonita Bonita in Mermaid Beach (I’m a little bias though…my fiancé is the head chef!).
Do you have an exercise routine / preferred activities ?
YOGA YOGA YOGA! Every damn day! If it’s not yoga I simply enjoy beach walks and swimming in the ocean.
A quote / mantra that you strive to follow ?
Be the change you want to see in the world.
Book / Music currently being read / listened to?
I’ve just finished reading Half the Sky, which blew my mind. It was very sad in parts but really inspired me, the book is mainly about gender inequality and inspiring women who have overcome the worst of worst situations and came out the other side stronger and more determined.
I have also just started reading The Four Agreements, loving it so far! So simply, easy to read yet very profound stuff!
Music wise, I am obsessed with Ed Sheeran, The Notorious B.I.G, Tracy Chapman and Fleetwood Mac (quite a mixture!) Also lately I have discovered a man called Krishna Das who creates the most beautiful music, I listen to his stuff a lot when I practice at home.
Where do you see yourself in 3 years?
Married to my love, travelling the world. Free as birds.
